vulnerable people - addicted mothers and their young children

Preventing upbringing problems by providing professional assistance

Reaching young addicted mothers and their babies for the purpose of providing them with assistance is often difficult. Many young addicted mothers do not seek help, not because they do not recognise the need for this help but because they see the request for help as a disqualification. The mothers are afraid of losing their parenting rights.
The consequences of addiction for the child include a lack of structure, a fear of the mother's unpredictable behaviour, a deficiency of stimulation, a lack of basic safety, disadvantages related to speech and language development, etc. Role models are often missing as well.
To promote early detection and the prevention of upbringing problems, it is important to develop an extensive network of existing professional contacts.
